NPR | Marijuana Rescheduling

NPR reporter Bill Chappell highlights a major federal policy shift after President Donald Trump signed an executive order directing marijuana to be reclassified from a Schedule I to a Schedule III controlled substance, acknowledging its potential for medical use and potentially easing some research barriers. While the change does not legalize cannabis at the federal level, it is intended to expand scientific study and reduce regulatory burdens that have long hindered research and industry operations.


Dr. Staci Gruber spoke with NPR last year on this matter, stating that this reclassification is "a very, very big paradigm shift," that could have "big trickle down effect in terms of the perspectives and the attitudes with regard to the actual sort of differences between studying Schedule III versus Schedule I substances."
